Pancake Festival - Fairfield, CT

Friday, March 6th, 2009 | Food Pairings, wine events | 1 Comment

Yes, I said Pancake Festival. Apparently there is going to be an All-You-Can-Eat Pancake festival in Fairfield, CT on Saturday, March 7th, near the beach from 7am - 2pm EST.

Address:
131 Beach Rd.
Fairfield, CT

I have no idea who is putting it on or what, but it sounds fantastic….too bad I’ll be traveling, otherwise I’d totally be there.

And in order to not be completely anti-wine related in this post, here are some fantastic pairings I have in mind for you winos out there:

Blueberry Pancakes - Why not a gentle, fruity Pinotage from South Africa. The floral fruity flavor should lend itself to the berry flavor and buttery smooth pancakes.

Standard pancakes - A Chardonney from Washington State, like the Chateau St.Michelle Reserve Chardonnay. Light, fruity, smooth and silky will be great with anything cakey and buttery.

French Toast - Go for the bubbly. This will be a pan-fried pairing delight! Make sure it’s a brut style Champagne or sparkling…. like a Cava from Spain or a Domaine Chandon Blanc de Blanc. Plus the eggs will be perfectly matched as well.

Banana-Walnut Pancakes - Any Chardonney from Central Coast, CA or Russian River Valley should do the trick with it’s lucious tropical fruit flavors of mango, banana, guava, and then some nice toasty oak finish to balance out the nuttiness of the griddle cakes.

Chocolate Chip Pancakes - This one is easy for me - Domaine Chandon Blanc de Noirs. Great blend of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonney. Very smooth, with strawberry fruit and light chocolate notes in the bubbles. Or try a Chocolate Merlot wine from Trentadu Vineyards. So silky and chocolately…. great with all kinds of rich desserts or pancakes.

This is the craziest post of wine pairing I’ve probably ever written, but then again this week has been nuts. So enjoy it and go nuts yourself! :)

Cheers!
